The teachers sang their own lyrics to ‘I want to break free’

A primary school in Northampton has created a music video of its teachers to let its pupils know how much they are missed.

Abington Vale Primary School, which has three campuses in Ashford Close, The Avenue and Bridgewater Drive, wanted to send a fun message to all the children who are not attending school during the pandemic.

The teachers at the school each played their part in the music video by singing lyrics, written by one of the year six teachers, to the classic Queen song ‘I want to break free’.

Head teacher, Laura Cichuta, said: “We always do a song when staff leave and we wanted to do something for our children as a bit of fun, so they can see us and know we are thinking of them.

“One of our year six teachers, Lydia Gendoo, had been looking for a song that would fit in with how we are with the children and then she wrote the words for us.”

The school wanted to get as many members of staff as possible involved from the three sites, so sent out a message asking what they would all be comfortable with.

As a result, the video includes teachers working from home, washing their hands, cleaning, playing and so much more all while singing the personalised lyrics.

The video was then put together by a member of staff’s relation and was shared out to the pupils last week.

Laura added: “The children loved it. We do all the online working, but seeing each other is really important.

“It’s really hard for the children at the moment so I think it’s really important to keep in touch in whatever way.

“It’s a long time to have no communication and it’s lovely to keep the school community going by letting them know we are missing them.”
