A recently opened Post Office in a busy part of Northampton has been put up for sale for just under £300k, leaving the future of the ‘lifeline’ store unclear.

The Post Office in Alexandra Terrace, Kingsthorpe, was sat empty for a year before Frédérick Brejouin and Anikó Gondos reopened it in May 2023.

For businesses and residents, being able to pop in to see Frédérick and Anikó for their banking and mail needs has reportedly been a ‘lifeline’ for the community.

However, after a successful year of running the shop and Post Office, the owners say they have had to call it a day due to personal circumstances.

The future of the store now remains unclear, and has recently been put up for sale for £295k and is also available on a long-term lease.

The sales advert reads: “This is a modern business with great potential for a new owner to benefit from all of the efforts the current owners have invested into it.

"Although still a young business, it has been profitable with growth each quarter and there is great potential for a new owner to increase turnover.

"The current owners take pride in the business, which is known for high quality customer service – which is reflected well in reviews for the store.

" A regular customer base brings in consistent sales with many grabbing their morning newspapers and families enjoying the sweet treats and ice creams on offer.

"The Post Office is a main branch, one of only two in in the area, meaning the business can offer a wide-range of services including passports, driving licences, banking services such as cash withdrawals and deposits, cheque deposits, balance enquiries, travel insurance, currency exchange and sending parcels and letters. Services for Amazon and Evri are already online, with the owners working on adding DHL services also.”

The recently leased store, secured for a 10-year term starting from March 10, 2023, has a quarterly rent of £4,750 (£19,000 annually) and current rates payable at £2,928 per year. Additional expenses include insurance at £1,074 annually (£90 per month) and electricity costs averaging £350-400 monthly, depending on usage.
